Students are generally expected to commence the year at Level 2 or -3. By the end of the academic year they should reach a Level 3+ or -4. In exceptional cases a student may attain Level 4. A level 4 is equivalent to a low C grade at GCSE under the old system. |
Students are generally expected to commence the year at Level 4 or -5. By the end of the academic year they should reach a Level 4+ or 5+. In exceptional cases a student may attain Level -6. A level 5 is equivalent to a good C grade at GCSE under the old system and is the new “Pass” |
Students are generally expected to commence the year at level 4 or 5. The GCSE grades awarded at the end of their studies can be summarised as follows
Expected Levels Senior 5 |
Level 3 D |
Level 4 Low C |
Level 5 C |
Level 6 B |
Level 7 A |
Level 8 A* |
Level 9 A** |
Please note the new system is much more challenging and it is predicted that only about 1% of students will attain a Level 9, and that this will be for exceptional attainment in a particular subject. Colleges will view Level 7 and 8 as high attainment.
